Introduction

Located in Plovdiv, the cultural capital of Bulgaria, Plovdiv Medical University is a world-class educational institution and one of the greatest medical schools not only in Bulgaria but also in Europe. For its leadership in the sphere of education, the university was dubbed “Best University” in 2013 by The European Business Assembly (EBA). It has one of the world’s best university teaching hospitals, providing high-quality care, education, and research.

Location

Plovdiv is Bulgaria’s second-largest city, with a population of more than 340,000 inhabitants according to statistics back to 2015. Plovdiv is located in south-central Bulgaria on the banks of the Maritsa River. It is the administrative center of Maritsa Municipality, Rodopi Municipality, and the municipalities of Plovdiv City. History

In 1945, the Medical University of Plovdiv was founded as the sole medical college of Plovdiv University. The faculty was renamed the “Independent Medical Academy – Plovdiv” in 1950. But in 1972, the faculty was renamed “Higher Medical Institute – Plovdiv”. In 1997, a Medical College was established as a subsidiary of the Plovdiv Medical University. After a careful examination by Bulgaria’s National Assembly in 2002, the Higher Medical Institute was renamed “Medical University of Plovdiv”. Though the Faculty of Dental Medicine was formed in 1974, a new building was constructed in 2005 to hold the Faculty of Dental Medicine inside the university. 

Departments and Facilities

More than 3,500 national and international students, as well as more than 600 lecturers and researchers, have chosen Medical University Plovdiv as their educational home. Students can get a high-quality education that covers diverse medical subjects such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, health care management, etc. All diplomas are accredited and EU-recognized. There are four faculties, one department, and one Medical College at the Plovdiv Medical University: Faculty of Medicine: Medical students usually spend six years in the preclinical and clinical training to complete their study period faculty of medicine. Faculty of Pharmacy: This faculty contains state-of-art laboratories for practical training. It also provides the degree of Master of Science to students. The Faculty of Dental Medicine: Students all over the world can choose this faculty to get a degree of Master of Science in dental medicine. Some might opt to get a specific specialization in dental medicine as well. Faculty of Public Health: This faculty is a great choice for those who want to get master’s degrees in subjects such as health care management and public health. it also provides Bachelor of Health Care Management and postgraduate courses for medical doctors. The Department of Languages and Specialized Training: Students who want to learn the Bulgarian language or other European languages can enroll in this department. The Medical College: This college offer 8 different programs for those willing to study medicine and related subjects.
